DAILY UPDATES - Kayaking the Thames!

Day 1: Wednesday 19th September

What an emotional 1st day Kayaking the Thames for Taylan's Project.

Strapped my Kayak to a frosty car at 6am and on the water at Cricklade by 8.30. Reached my campsite at 6.05pm tired but satisfied. Lady on a narrow boat leant over to give me a fiver this morning and said she's got a friend who's going through the same. Totally choked up - that's the reason I'm doing this.

Thanks SO much for all your support, it's really keeping me going.

Day 2: Thursday 20th September
Not a great night's sleep last night but I was joined by my friend Mark who  accompanied me down the river for the first stretch. Mark lost his Dad to a brain tumour and we have been having some emotional times this morning. Thank you Mark for keeping me company!

Colin Smith caught up with me at Culham Lock earlier today and said I was doing amazing, Kayaking the Thames for Taylan which really helped.  Lucky he was there as I had to bypass the lock with a barge stuck in it.....was a long drop......!

My morale had dropped towards the end of the day - battling a constant headwind and a blister on my palm. Not a happy man! Andy Rawlinson thankfully joined me to keep me company.  Overnight in a youth hostel for a hot shower and hopefully a better nights’ sleep.

Sunday 23rd September

Hi everyone, Just a quick note to let you know that Glenn completed his challenge today safely despite having to battle the rain and 1 metre high waves in London.

Apologies for not continuing with the daily updates but he has been exhausted and trying to catch his breath back in the evenings as well as some much needed sleep!

There will be an overall update soon from the man himself! Well done Glenn!  So proud of you and your amazing achievement!

Thank you to those who have already done so but can everyone else please donate a couple of pounds?

THE CHALLENGE

On 19th September 2012, Glenn Hearsey will be paddling his Kayak from the Source of the River Thames at Cricklade, through Central London to Greenwich. The total distance is approximately 160 miles and he will be doing this alone, with all of the kit to survive the trip on board in just 5 days.

This is no easy task mentally and physically and we take our hats off to Glenn for coming up with such an original idea to help fund the fight against brain tumours.

Please please visit his Justgiving page and donate what you can to show your support.
