Christmas Appeal
As you contemplate your Christmas list in the lead-up to this year’s festive period, could you consider purchasing one more present – a gift for a child with cancer – through Taylan’s Project?
Every day, 10 children and young people in the UK hear the shocking news that they have cancer. Often, children who suffer from such serious illnesses have to endure long stays in hospital with unpleasant treatments and it’s difficult to make these brave children happy during this challenging time. Treatment usually starts immediately, and we know only too well that being diagnosed with cancer is a frightening experience for a child and their family.
As part of the ongoing support that we provide to families and children who are treated at The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, this year we’re aiming to donate a teddy to each child spending time there on a cancer journey. At present there are nearly 100 children receiving treatment for cancer at the hospital and for many, this will sadly be their last Christmas. We only had one Christmas with Taylan after his diagnosis. Many children will visit the ward at some point over the festive period, so with the help of Build a Bear and Groves & Banks, we would love to give each child a special teddy that they can take home, bring to treatment sessions, or simply have with them whenever they need a hug.
During the festive season we search for the ‘real’ meaning of Christmas and something to warm our hearts. For just £10, you can make a child smile and make a difference by sponsoring a teddy. You could do so yourself, get together with friends and family, ask your child’s class to each donate £1, or collect donations through your workplace. In other words, there are lots of ways to make it happen.
Taylan loved his teddies, as do all children, so please help us. By supporting our appeal we can buy 100 teddies by 25th November to offer special presents to each child receiving cancer treatment at the hospital this Christmas. All you have to do is email us with how many teddies you would like to sponsor, including your name, and how you would like to make your donation.
